Digital mammography uses the same technique as film mammography.  X-rays are used to produce images of the breast tissue that are then recorded directly onto a computer.  The images can then be manipulated to produce the best image possible. 

Mammography has been demonstrated to facilitate the diagnosis of breast cancer and trials have shown that screening can help decrease the overall mortality risk of patients from breast cancer. 

Digital mammograms are recommended annually for women over the age of 40.
